To be honest I had no idea what ACT114A was until now. In my understanding, it is an ammendment to an existing law passed by the malaysian government to police the internet in a way. It states that "the owner or host etc of a website or network is presumed to have posted whatever is put over that network or site" in other words you are going to be held responsible. In my opinion this is wrong and I think politics has a hand in the ammendment of this bill. It is designed to instill fear in internet users because for example if someone hacks into your network and uses it to do something bad you will automatically be prosecuted for it.This is a direct infringement on peoples right to freedom of expression. Anyone of us as long as you use the internet can be affected by this, I think this is an intimidating law and should be seriously protested by the people who value freedom in their society.
ReplyDeleteyes this is so true but the question is, will the government believe you, if your network was hacked? also, how sure can one prove his/her innocence, because one can do the act and pretend to be 'hacked'. The government is trying to protect its image and put morals and discipline in the people of Malaysia

Deleteas an user by having 114A Act we should now be fear what will come in the future because this 114A Act if for our own protection and right as a user, even you are been hack there is always a to proof you are not guilty, the judgement will take and action.

DeleteUndoubtedly ACT114A must care about people and their votes, and they must know what's going on behind people's life?!
on the other hand, people-self have to protect their own votes strongly. I'm not that person who knows everything but for this case I mean ACT114A will need change based on what people wish.
ACT114A is a way of monitoring the internet users by the Malaysian government. it is an existing law that was amended and passed by the Malaysian government to keep an eye on internet users. Many people are not aware of this Act and have no idea what it is and how much damage it can do to internet users, especially internet users of Facebook, Twitter and Blogs.
ReplyDeleteYes, it does matter to all internet users; hence, it monitors what people post and can have drastic damages to people's secrets and violating their rights to privacy,the unending sharing of information and the freedom of speech/writing. Anyone can hijack ones internet and post things that are not your, thus incriminating you and the government won't believe your site being hacked.
yes one needs to be concern because what the government really want is tokeep quiet and stay off the internet.
I think there is no reason for someone to just pretend that he or she is hacked by someone because he might put himself on a risk cause if the government realise that all of the things he said is a lie he will be in a big trouble and don't forget that every country has a spy system to control everything that happens and fortunately they are more aware of everything that normal people might know , so its not hard for them to find the hacker , and specially Malaysia has a very high technology and i think its not a big deal for it to just find a criminal :)
DeleteACT114A is a policy that has been created for stopping internet and social network's crimes, the government of Malaysia made this to protect the people's privacy, for example your friend come to your house and wants to use your internet for checking his email or facebook but you didn't sign out your account before and its already there so your friend might use your account and post something from your side or someone just make a fake account and go and sit in a coffee shop and use their internet and post something against someone else , all of these kind of crimes can be manage by the government and the government of Malaysia has this power to do it, and how this would affect me , obviously I'm an internet user so any moment someone might just use my account or hack it to get to do something wrong or maybe our bank accounts can easily be hacked by someone even close to you and its really dangerous and we will not feel safe any more to use any kind of social networks and do our bankings on line and of course we need to be concerned about it because we have to have our security keeping safe and be aware of the fact that we sill be supported by government.
DeleteI also concur with her statement above, it is definately a move by the government to have a tighter grip on monitoring or policing the internet. Also I think people should be given fair chance to exercise their freedom rights because from the information I have been reading so far , people are against this act because they believe it infringes on their rights.

ReplyDeleteWith regards to what you are saying, it makes sense in a way for the government to introduce this act in order to further protect the online activities of the citizens.I also agree that the citizens themselves need to be more aware and take extra steps, this act should be handled carefully because of its sensitive nature and majority of people are seeing it as a way of policing their online lives.

Deleteim totally agree with what you said, precaution are important in life, no own is prefect but we can try to make it perfect, that what Malaysia government are trying to do to the citizens and me as the citizens i'm are try our best to adapted with the new police and the situation, because in the further we are the one who will have the advantages and i feel more like trouble-free with this 114A Act that have been introduce. feel safe when browsing.

To be honest this is my First time i heard the name of 114A Act, but i do know as a Malaysia we don't have the right to write and speech topic that is not allowed in online such as political issues and imposter account.
ReplyDeleteThis effect a lot of people including my self, because we don't really have the right to voice out our own opinion and expression on the net about our own government but in other hand that is good this 114A ACT excited because our country issue and stay in the country so other will not know our weakness and as a user we have our own right to protect our admins.
Doest it really matter? it does lot of advantages rather than disadvantages, it can protect your own dignity and the country, no one want to make their life in trouble. if imposter account that have been created and talk about your life in false way for sure you don't like it and this where 114A Act apply.
I don't think you would like your privacy to be invaded by the government. This law is limiting yoour freedom of speech as an individual. you cannot voice out what you like about the government, especially when the government view it as a sensitive issue. Malaysia is practicing democracy, where freedom of speech and expression is of paramount importance. This Act114A violets this freedom of speech and expression.
DeleteIn my own opinion, Malaysian government don't enter to our own privacy life, they just limiting the freedom of speech and to voice out in publicly. like i stated above the is advantage and disadvantage of it.

What is Act 114A?

But if you are an internet user with a Facebook, Twitter, Blog or even administer a website - you are, and you will come under the 114A act.It is more important to continue raising the awareness and make yourself counted.
