Personally I were almost aware of this, and after reading this article my knowledge became more complete, although my opinion is still same as past. It's true that facebook is a place of a lot of personal information around, but it seems if we are worry to show these kind of information, we also should stay away from all people! I mean the privacy which they mentioned is making by us, so if it's important for us to be in secure, so there is no reason to talk or share in any social networks like facebook or whatevere.. All in all, I'm using these social networks to near me to my goals otherwise it would be wasting time, therefore it had be better to use them just for fun not very seriously.
Your point is a valid one, the issue of privacy on social networks has always been there, at this stage I think it is left to us to try as much as possible to control what we post on these sites. The less vital information we share, the better protected we are so people in general need to be careful and more aware.
Your are right. If someone is so concern or paranoid on Facebook privacy issues, he/she should not sign up for it then. Facebook is not call "Facebook" for nothing. It is a place where pictures and thoughts are being expressed. One should just mind what he/she shares.
Actually, I have been aware of facebook's privacy issues. personally I don't really use facebook much and I have been careful with the information I share on it. The article has definately highlighted another security risk that I was not fully aware of. The fact that basically anybody can get information about you with little effort is very disturbing, we have heard of numerous cases of fraud and other crimes being comitted through the use of information gotten from social websites but after reading this article it seems the potential risks are far greater and they need to be tackled by the relevant parties. I personally hold the social networks responsible but I don't think the social networks themselves can take care of this problem alone, they will need help fron governments and other associations. On our part, we consumers can protect our selves better by being careful about the information we give on these networks and not giving too much information about our selves.
True talk Ahmed. we should not sit and fold our arms thinking there is nothing we can do about it, we can minimize the amount of information we put on Facebook. We can control who view what and when, since Facebook has given us that right to select the people that view our information.
to be truthful, the security risk have already stated before you registering facebook and you as a user should hold the responsible and precautions government would not do anything because before you register you have agreed of the term and condition, if u felt scared about your information will show on the world wide web, the is privacy setting that been provided by facebook hence for user safety.
I really agree with all of the above and I think there is no forcing to have a Facebook account when we are afraid to share some information with the others , we can have fun a little bit so why don't we enjoy ?
In someways, i am aware of the privacy issues of Facebook. Faacebook has it's terms and conditions, one has to accept these terms and conditions before he/she could access Facebook/become a Facebook user. Hence regarding this privacy issues, it is necessary to read the Facebook privacy policy so as to enable you to know what you are signing for. It is in the user's interest to allow people to access your photos or not, since Facebook has photo audience policy. Someone can see your picture on search engines when you enable geo tagging and its kinds. Although, we can't do nothing about the profile picture; since its our kind of identification. It is our responsibility to give minimum amount of information for our own safety. This article is shading more light on how careful one has to be with facebook information sharing, because our information and photos are not all safe.
I agree with what you are saying. Before joining these social networks there is always a kind of agreement or disclaimer that you have to agree to before joining the service. It is up to us the users to safeguard our personal information in order to protect ourselves from the various threats.
True, as a user we are the one who have to take responsibility and have to read any term and condition that have been provided in-hence, we would know and be prepared and take careful precautions about the effect. profile picture is is our photo identification because we cannot fake profile, that is already disobey the law and we totally don't want to be in trouble, and that where by new technology in facebook that they can detect a person face for tagging.
I think everyone know that facebook is a social media, but the reality is that people does not know what it's define for.
"A social networking is an online service, platform, or site that focuses on facilitating the building of social networks or social relations among people who, for example, share interests, activities, backgrounds, or real-life connections" - via Wikipedia.
So, here at the definition it self shows that facebook is a place of sharing your life information such as share interests, activities, backgrounds, or real-life connections including your expression. in the research by Carnegie Mellon University that said that "Facebook has essentially become a worldwide photo identification database". it is so obvious! look back at the the definition, some how I feel there is no point to do this research because from the beginning it already said that facebook is a social network and for sure whatever that you have posted in facebook even me it would appeared in the world wide web.
Issue about our own privacy in danger? in my own opinion, as a user we should know what are the effect will happen to you in the future by having a social network, because there is term and condition before you register a social network either facebook or Google+, Moreover Facebook and Google+ do know how to keep their customer in happy mood, in the Facebook and Google+ setting it self state that is a privacy setting where by we can control how many amount of people and who are only allowed to view our personal information and even who can only search our page.
Would I still stay on facebook? yes, I would because I do know what the effect and the disadvantage and advantages of it.
I think all of us are aware of the fact that Facebook nowadays is getting worse and worse because of the privacy problems, but as I see even with this issue people still use Facebook and still enjoy sharing their thoughts ,information, photos and etc..as all of you guys mentioned I agree with the point that all of us should protect our privacy and be informed that we should know what to share with the others and we really think that we can be harmed by sharing our information we are not forced to use social networks such as Facebook any more , and also we can control our privacy setting, so in my idea it's not a big deal because I'm mature enough to know how to use these kind of stuff.
